It IS Possible! The Kid Can Eat!

Tonight, we ate dinner with the sister missionaries. It's always a pleasure having them over. They're so sweet and fun. For dinner, we had salmon, perogies, green beans, and rolls. Every night, for dinner, we put a small plate out for Jackson and we give him everything we eat. Most of the time, he takes a few bites and we start to get our hopes up thinking that he's going to eat a lot. Over time, we've noticed that if we say anything to him about how well he's eating or if we ask him if he likes his food, he immediately stops eating. Instead, he starts to play with his food or he'll say he's done. Tonight was no different when I prepared his plate. I gave him a little bit of everything. With the Sisters there, we had someone else to distract us and keep us busy with conversation. In the beginning, I watched Jackson eat a few bites of salmon and a piece of his roll. I wondered when he would give up. About 10 minutes later, after I'd been trying to feed Braden his sweet potatoes and keep THAT kid happy, I look over at Jackson and his plate is empty. My face must've looked shocked and dumbfounded. It was one of those moments where I just couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. It was incredible! I even looked in his lap and on the floor to make sure he hadn't just thrown it all down, but the unthinkable really did happen! He ate his whole plate of food!!! Even the green bean that he so decidedly declared he wouldn't have. I was like, "Give me a high-five!!" I hope this isn't just some crazy fluke. I'm not sure what caused him to eat everything. Maybe it was the lack of attention. Maybe it was trying to impress the Sisters. Who knows! All I know is I don't have to worry about my baby going hungry tonight, and that makes me feel SO DARN GOOD.

I saw something once where they had the parents not mention it at all to the kid and just go on like normal with dinner. Apparently if you don't make a big fuss over it, they are more likely to eat. It worked, atleast in that case. And another time they actually left the kid's plate empty and just started eating. Eventually the kid felt left out and started asking for food. Just a few ideas...

That is so funny. Lucas has weird eating habits too. He hates to have his food thrown away, so instead he will sit at the table for 1+ hours until we remind him he can save it for later. Then we end up with a ton of little bowls in the fridge of his leftovers. WE have started to put a time limit on him just so we can do something besides wait for Lucas to finish eating. I wonder where they get these things.
