Friday was Braden's 9 month check up. My mom and granny were visiting with us for a couple of days so they watched Jackson for us. It was so nice taking only one child. It's like taking a load off--literally. Anyway, here's the scoop on Braden.
- 15 lbs. 10 oz. Not much of a difference since his last appointment. In fact, he's falling off the charts, and the doctor is calling him "failure to thrive." The doctor was a bit concerned with this label, but Trapper and I were not surprised. Both he and I were failure to thrive children. I wasn't even on the charts until I was 12 years old.
- Height is 26 1/2 in.
- Hemoglobin level is very low. As a result of this, the doctor sent us over to the lab to have blood taken from Braden to rule out any serious problems. And BOY! Did they take a lot of blood! They took probably 8 or 9 vials of blood. The doctor said he wanted to get it all over with in one visit. So I guess that was nice.
- The best thing that's happened recently though is that he will take a bottle now!!!! All of a sudden, he wasn't as interested in breast feeding and I noticed he liked to chew on the nipple of the bottle. And when my mom was here, Trap and I went on a date. Well, short story shorter...he took it well!! And even wanted more, so she gave him some formula and he took that pretty well! WOOHOO!! PARTY!!!! I feel like I should have a celebration in honor of this event. Occasionally he'll still fuss and refuse to take it, but if I let him get alittle hungry he'll eventually down the whole bottle. I feel so LIBERATED!!
- Another big step with Braden is that we've finally gotten him into the crib. He's been sleeping in the playpen since birth. So, last night was his first night in it. He cried for quite awhile just after midnight, but he would immediately go to sleep if I picked him up, so I'm thinking he's just not used to the new bed. Back to the Sleep Lady Shuffle. *sigh*

They're calling him ftt? Wow! Hope the litte guy's ok. Remember how sometimes Jackson would eat way better at my house? Maybe Braden just needs a little Aunt Sally love! Send him over here and I'll fatten the little guy up!!! No I'm serious. Send the little man out!
My first reaction to "failure to thrive" was What? He looks happy and healthy to me. Those weight and height charts are out-of-date and are for reference. I hope your doctor looked at other stats and info about Braden before diagnosing.
Great news that he likes a bottle and formula now! And in three months he can start on whole milk!
Love the smiles and the bath picture!
What was his hemoglobin levels at? I'm curious to hear what the doctor called 'low' because of Dallin's experience with hemolytic anemia. I hope you figure out what is wrong and that it is nothing serious. I will be praying for him.
I don't care what they say, he is thriving on the *adorable* scale!!! Love these pictures you posted:)
