My Favorite Season

I'm sure you might have noticed, but I'm looking foward to the season of fall. : ) One of my favorite things is when the wind blows through the trees, and hundreds of yellow, orange, red and brown leaves freefall through the air. It has a magical beauty about it that brings joy to my soul. Last year, in the fall, I was able to go to the Sacred Grove with my sister-in-law, Ashley. The sky was a blanket of grey clouds and threatened us with rain, but the grove stood in magnificent splendor. I wish I had hugged one of the trees there. To think that one of those trees was present for the First Vision when God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and I could've touched it!!
I think another reason I love fall is for its symbolism. You might not agree with my interpretation but this is what I think of: death, being brought down into the depths of humility, a weathered life full of battle scars and memories, wisdom in age and experience, beauty in character and uniqueness.

I want to include my favorite poem. I found it a long time ago in a New Era when I was a teenager. The imagery and the use of onomatopoeias is what I love most. It took me forever to find that word: onomatopoeia. If you're clueless about the word like I was, it is the use of words to imitate natural sounds. And I've always thought this poem had that ability. When I read it, I hear the sound of crunching leaves.

Autumn Afternoon
by D. Marisa Black
The thick foliage
crawled over the hills,
its coarse blanket
wrapping itself
around the thin shoulders
of Mother Nature,
this old widow,
weathered
painfully
like fallen leaves,
soon to be blown away
by a
crisp
November wind.
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do. : )

Fall is my favorite season too. I love the crisp, cool air mixed with sunshine. I think of a warm bowl of soup after a day in the woods. I can't wait for our vacation to see the fall foliage in the east this year. I imagine it to look like that poem describes.

I love fall. Something about it just makes me smile. It never stays around long enough for me.

Oooooo! Suddenly I felt like I was there! I am getting excited too! I just love the crispness. That is my favorite part. Sweaters, red cheeks and noses, leaves crackling under foot! Ahhhh!
