JT's 9 month checkup

Today was Jackson's 9 month checkup with Dr. Amy Clark. I kind of enjoy going to the doctor, because I get to show Jackson off. Everyone there thinks he's the cutest and I just love it. haha Of course, I think my baby is the awesomest in the world. What mother wouldn't? However, at the same time, I kind of dread the inevitable needle poking. Every time they give him immunizations and he starts crying and holding on to me, I have to hold my own tears! *sigh* It's just heartbreaking watching him go through that. The whole time we were in the office, Jackson was pretty wary of all strangers. He usually does okay, but now he starts freaking out when they touch him or get to close. Poor kid was so scared. When Dr. Clark came in, Jackson started talking and babbling like he does when he's at home and in his comfort zone, so I thought he'd be fine, but it still scared him when she was checking his heart and ears and stuff.
We have some interesting and weird measurements for JT this month. First, his weight last month was 19 lbs. But that was with his clothes and diaper on. This month, without his clothes or diaper, he is 15 lbs. 11 oz. I figured he just lost some weight being really active now that he's crawling. The doctor, though, doesn't think that's it. She's kind of concerned. I'm not though. When I was little, I wasn't even on the charts, but I was healthy and fine. So I'm not too concerned. His head circumference apparently grew so much that the doctor wondered what could be causing that as well. I don't understand what's so perplexing about all this. So his head got a little bigger! I guess since his weight went down, the whole head ordeal is a little confusing. Hm Whatever. I really am a good mother y'all. I do worry about my son, but he acts normal and healthy, so I guess I don't think about it much.

The number one issue with the doctor today was his heart murmer that has not gone away. It's been going on for 3 months now, so she referred me to a doctor in Grand Junction to get an EKG done on his heart. Yikes! It kind of scares me a little that something could be wrong with my baby's heart, but I'm sure he'll be fine. Nonetheless, I'll be praying for his heart to be a strong and healthy functioning heart. I'll keep y'all posted on how that goes.

Before we left the doctor's office, Jackson got his first flu shot. It was a sad sight watching him writhed in pain and then grip my body wanting mama's help. : ( The crying didn't last long though, thankfully. I gave him his binkie and the nurse gave him a Diego band-aid and then we left. Ever since then, Jackson's been pretty fussy and needy. He's been following me everywhere!! Oh man, speak of the devil. Here he comes to get me off the computer. : )

I took a picture of him and I today, for fun, but I don't look so hot. It's just been one of those days.

Yay! I like your new blog look. And I can see your faces. :) Jackson is cute. He's problably in that stage where he realizes there are strangers and different people around him. (By the way, Dallin still has issues with the nurse taking his temperature.) He got the flu vaccine today...but it was the flu mist--up the nose. He HATED it. Probably would have been better to get the shot. I have some hints for getting shots: use the binky before the shot, and give him tylenol an hour before you see the doctor. It really helps.

Sam, Melissa's second son, has weight issues, too. But don't worry about it. As long as Jackson eats and is healthy in every other way, then it is okay. Kids are like that. It took Angela forever to get beyond 30 lbs. (like she was 6-7 years old) and Dallin is already there at 2 1/2 yrs.

I will be praying for Jackson's EKG appointment to go well.

Sorry, I'll stop rambling. :)

I think it's good that you aren't worrying too much. All kids grow at different rates. He seems to be a pretty healthy little guy.

Hey Trapper...your little guys is sure cute. And Suzy....I am with you...those doctors use those stinkin charts WAY too much....I say if a kids eats and sleeps he is doing pretty good. I hope that things go well with the EKG.

Hey guys, it's fun to see how much Jackson is changing! We will keep you in our prayers with his heart murmur. Kayla went through the whole heart specialist thing too. We understand how scary it can be! Good luck!

I hate the shots most of all. The one year shots are the worst. Reve had 5 different shots. Yes he got poked with 5 different needles. Then after that they wanted me to take him to the hospital and do a screening for lead. So another shot to draw blood. I was heart breaking. Anyways I am excited to see you guys soon.

So Lucas had the same head problem, his head was making huge leaps and bounds in circumfence. Or however you spell it. It turned out they were afraid that one of his ventricles haden't closed. I don't know what it means if it didn't but it was nice to know they were on the lookout. They took an MRI, and it turned out everything was find, but it really calmed my nerves. Good luck with the rest of that stuff, doctors make me nervous because sometimes I just wnat them to explain what the possiblities are without just scaring the crap out of me.

Hi, Suz! Just stoppin' by-- y'all are certainly one super cute little fam. :)
Also, hopefully a note of "comfort"-- both my boys have what the cardiologist calls "innocent heart murmurs". We took Jonathan to a specialist just to make sure (they did an EKG and ultrasound) and found it to be benign. It's fairly common, I guess... that's what they told me. It's good to check things out thoroughly, but chances are it's not big deal. So it's good not to worry unless you have to. ;)
